About Jim Corbett National Park

jim corbett national park  is the first national park in India, established in the year 1936, earlier it was named Hailey National Park. In 1957, the park was converted as the Corbett National Park in memory of the great naturalist, late Jim Corbett, an eminent conservationist. Its distance is 118 kms from Nainital via Kaladhungi and Ramnagar.

Corbett National Park spread over an area of ​​521 square kilometres, it is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas. The park is spread over two districts, a major part of the park covers an area of ​​312.86 sq km in Pauri Garhwal district and the remaining 208.14 sq km in Nainital district. Administratively, the park comes under the Kalagarh and Ramnagar forest divisions.

Corbett Park is spread over vast meadows, which are surrounded by hills and small rivers flow from these hills to the plains. Corbett National Park consists of hills, river belts, marshy pits, grasslands and a large lake. Winter nights are cold here but the days are sunny and hot.  It rains here from July to September.

The dense moist deciduous forest is mainly covered by Sal, Haldu, Peepal, Rohini and Mango trees.The forests here give rise to different types of vegetation and as a result, different species of wildlife reside here. The Ramganga River flows through the center of the park and with some deep puddles in its winding paths and is also the main water source of the park. Forests cover about 73% of the park, 10% of this area is grasslands.

Large elephant grass is found on the banks of the river, as well as its moist environment is an ideal habitat for gardens. The tiger’s natural diet consists of sambar, chittal, kakad, hog deer and wild boar found in a large number of tiger reserves while bears are mainly confined  to the mountainous region. Many elephants live in the park, but they continue to visit the nearby forests in search of food. Various types of fish are also found in the rivers here.
