Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, was named after Sir George Everest. Sir George had spent a long period of his life in Mussoorie. This surveyor and geographer of Wales had told the exact height and location
of Everest for the first time. Therefore, on the recommendation of British surveyor Andrew Waugh, this peak was named after him in the year 1865. Earlier this peak was known as Peak-15.

The Sir George Everest House built on 172 acres of land near Hathipaon of Mussoorie and the laboratory located about 50 meters away from it, laboratory renovation work was started on 18 January 2019,
the Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj had laid the foundation stone for this work.

Where is George Everest House Mussoorie Located ?

The historic George Everest House located at Hathipaon in Mussoorie recently renovated Tourism Minister of Uttarakhand Satpal Maharaj will inaugurate the newly built George Everest House on 7th December.

The historic George Everest House located at Hathipaon in Mussoorie will attract tourists. On December 7, Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj will inaugurate the newly built George Everest House.
Under the Uttarakhand Tourism Infrastructure Development Investment Programme, the ruined Sir George Everest House has been renovated with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank.
On which an amount of about 23.69 crores was spent.

The original appearance of George Everest House was retained in the restoration work. Instead of cement on the lines of the British, it has been rebuilt from the mixture made by grinding in the mill. In its renovation,
Lahori bricks have been used in the mill by grinding lime, succulent, fenugreek and urad dal with water and making a cement-like coating.

The traditional wooden houses of Uttarakhand, decades later, remain strong even today. The waiting rooms built on George Everest are giving a better and enjoyable experience to the tourists visiting here.
Along with this, notice boards have been put up at various places to provide better facilities to the tourists. In view of the increasing pressure of tourists on George Everest, along with a parking lot
near the boom barrier, a reception counter has also been built. From where all the information related to George Everest is being made easily available to the tourists.
