Over 300 travelers are currently stranded in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, as a devastating landslide has washed away a critical road. The collapse of the Lipulekh-Tawaghat road near Lakhanpur, eroded by 100 meters due to a massive rockfall, has left both tourists and locals stuck in Dharchula and Gunji, unable to continue their journeys.

Local authorities estimate that it will take approximately two days to repair and reopen the road for traffic. Meanwhile, rescue operations are underway to ensure the safety and well-being of those stranded.

Adding to the difficulties faced by the stranded individuals, the weather department has issued a dust storm and thundershower alert for multiple districts in Uttarakhand. This includes Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Garhwal, Hardwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar, and Uttarkashi. This situation requires caution and preparedness.

In light of these circumstances, the local police have issued an advisory, urging all pilgrims to seek safe accommodations and avoid unnecessary travel. They emphasize the importance of parking vehicles in secure locations and discourage venturing out unless weather conditions improve.

Specifically addressing devotees planning the Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham Yatra, the police advise careful consideration of the weather forecast and recommend carrying rain covers, umbrellas, and warm clothing to ensure comfort and safety during the pilgrimage.

Efforts are currently underway to alleviate the situation, facilitate rescue operations, and evacuate the stranded tourists. Authorities are diligently working to restore the damaged road and provide necessary support to those affected, with a primary focus on their safety and well-being in this challenging situation.
