Chamoli district of Uttarakhand received the first snowfall of this season. The entire town was covered in a white blanket of snow. Hemkund Sahib situated at a height of 15,000 feet in the Chamoli district was also covered in snow. The videos taken by people show the gurudwara looking like a snow palace. On Sunday, the pilgrimage was halted due to heavy snowfall. 

Hemkund Sahib Portals to close from today

Hemkund Sahib is one of the pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand apart from the Char Dham. It is situated in the Chamoli district. The portals of this holy shrine will be closed to the public from October 10, 2022. The portals are closed due to the harsh winters and heavy snowfall received in this area. 

Visitors in Hemkund Sahib this year

2022 was the first season after the Covid pandemic when the restrictions for tourists and pilgrims were lifted and they were allowed to visit Hemkund Sahib with certain safety guidelines. So due to this reason, Hemkund Sahib received record numbers of visitors this year. A total of 2.15 lakhs people visited this holy shrine.

Hemkund Sahib Sikh shrines located in the Garhwal region. It is revered in the same manner the other four Dhams are revered. The place is visited by Sikhs as well as Hindus. Every year it opens during summer and closes during the onset of winter.

Snowfall in other places of Uttarakhand

Dharma Valley, located near the Indo-China border, also received the season’s first snowfall on Tuesday. Dhaka and Bidang Chowki, situated in Dharma Valley received over a foot thick snow. The temperature plunged sharply in these places.
