Torrential rainfall in Uttarakhand

It has been predicted by the meteorological department that in the next 48 hours, light to
moderate rainfall can be witnessed in some isolated places in Uttarakhand. Since the last week,
the hill state has received heavy rainfall in the plain areas and snowfall in the high-altitude
areas.

Prediction of the Met Department

The meteorological department has predicted light to moderate snowfall within the next 24
hours in higher reaches like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar. The
met department has also predicted the possibility of hailstorms, lightning, and rainfall in
isolated areas.

Western disturbances from Bay of Bengal

Vikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Center, said that due to moisture-laden winds and
western disturbances coming from the Bay of Bengal, light and moderate rainfall have been
experienced in Uttarakhand. Now, these winds have weakened and the western disturbance is
also moving quickly forward from Northwest India.

Chopta

Chopta is also known as the “Switzerland of Uttarakhand”. During winters, Chopta is covered in
snow-blanket. Chopta is one of the favorite spots for young travelers who come for winter treks
to Tungnath and Chandrashilla.

Nainital

Nainital is flocked by tourists almost in all seasons. The ones who like to enjoy snowfall, visit
Nainital during winter. Nainital, the beautiful hill town, gets covered in snow during the winter.
