The long-pending construction of Laxman Jhula finally can see a ray of hope after getting financial approval from the government. The construction work of the iconic suspension bridge in Rishikesh remained halted for the last few years.   

After this decision of financial approval, the local public representatives, businessmen, and residents of Rishikesh have expressed their gratitude to the cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal. The minister said that earlier due to the low load-carrying capacity of Laxman Jhula, movement on it was completed ceased, which was not feasible for the local traders and they demanded the construction of the new bridge.  

Roshan Raturi, president of Municipal Council Munikireti-Dhalwala, said that the new suspension bridge is expected to increase tourist-related activities in the region and this will ultimately create employment opportunities for the locals. An engineer who is in the project construction said that the length of the bridge to be built is 132.30 meters and the cost of the project stands at Rs 6886.20 lakh. The tender process for the bridge construction has started and the work is expected to begin from December.
